US tariffs, Chinese export controls and closed shipping routes pushed the EU and India together in 2026. On 27 January they concluded a trade agreement and signed a defence partnership. Most of it is still to be implemented.

Ties between people have grown faster than the institutions: more than a million residence permits, the largest share of EU Blue Cards, and rising goodwill in Germany. The magazine follows both.
